The most advanced medical equipment in any hospital isn’t the fancy machines that go “ping”, but the eyes, ears and perceptual systems of the medical personnel. Here I describe how our senses, and especially our peculiar variety of color vision, is for seeing spectral signs of health on bare skin. The move to telemedicine is dangerous is dangerous, and even most doctors aren’t consciously aware of the extent to which they pick up health signs via cues only visible in real life.
