Every day, homeless pets are taken into loving homes. This is the story of Annie, a dog that was saved from the streets of Arkansas, cared for by a foster parent for months before being transported to Maine and adopted by a couple who knows she has an incredible home.

It all started with Kim, a foster mom with the Georgia-based rescue organization Road Trip Home. Kim would see a lonely and starving dog eating rubbish off the street with her two puppies whenever she went to see her mother in Arkansas.

She made the decision to assist. So, on Kim's next trip to Arkansas, she picked up the puppies on the street and took them back to Georgia to be transported via Road Trip Home to be adopted in Maine.

But what about her mother?! Kim realized she had to help that poor mother dog as well. So she did exactly that. She was given the name Annie.

Annie was terribly ill; she had heartworm and was severely starved. Kim cared for her for several months until she was fully recovered. That's when Road Trip Home was ready to convey her to Maine.

Elaine Ayer discovered Annie at the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland. She was the ideal dog for Elaine and her husband, Fred. They had to have her. Elaine had arranged to adopt Annie and provide her with a warm and caring home in just a few days.

Annie is now living the good life, with a large yard surrounded by a large fence and enough of space to run around and be happy.

Hers is just one of hundreds of stories about dogs saved by Road Trip Home and their incredible network of volunteers.
