Hibiscus L. is a genus of flowering plants that groups about 300 species, inserted in the Malvaceae family, with lush flowers and leaves. Due to the new phylogenetic taxonomy (Angiosperm Phylogeny Group), many species that belonged to this genus are migrating to other genera. For example: Hibiscus esculentus L., the okra plant, is now Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench. The cultivation of specimens of the genus, both ornamental and economic, is widespread in subtropical and tropical regions, taking care not to suffer from frost and constant low temperatures.
