Baibak, or the common (steppe) marmot, is a rodent of the marmot genus, an inhabitant of the virgin steppes of Eurasia. Baibak is one of the largest squirrels: the length of its body is 50-70 cm, the weight of the fattened males reaches 10 kg. The bobaks live in large perennial colonies, arranging burrows of various purposes and complexity for housing. When a permanent burrow is arranged, up to ten cubic meters of soil is thrown onto the surface, forming a marmot hill. On the marmot near the inhabited burrow there is a trampled site, from where marmots inspect the surroundings.
