The Perils of New Big Tech Antitrust Bills

American consumers rely on many conveniences brought to us by search, e-commerce, and social media platforms. Yet, many people worry about Big Tech's influence over our lives. They control the information we receive and don’t always treat ideas and individuals fairly. This is a real problem.
But five new antitrust bills will do nothing to stop the censorship of conservative views. They will just restrict how some big companies — especially Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google — grow and operate. The measures imperil the conveniences that make life easier, work faster, and save consumers money. Big Tech platforms would be prohibited from selling competing goods or services to those of third parties on their platforms. And from prioritizing their products or services over those of competitors on their platform. Here are services that could disappear:.
Amazon could be prohibited from offering free shipping as part of Amazon Prime. iPhones may not come preloaded with apps and tools such as FaceTime, iMessage, Find My, or the App Store. Google map results would be prohibited from appearing among Google search results.
Amazon would be banned from selling its generic batteries on its platform. Yet, grocery stores commonly sell their own generic brands alongside competitors. YouTube videos may be prohibited from appearing in Google searches. Americans want speech protections, not limited choices.
