This is NOT animal abuse. Right there is the Scruff of their necks. Holding it reminds them of how their mothers used to carry them. There is a psychological thing in the cat's mind that makes them do this. It does NOT hurt the cat in anyway. Adult cats are different... you can not hold them by the scruff with their whole weight as this can injure them.
