The Oldest Church in Tennessee: Sinking Creek Baptist Church

Founded in 1772 by Matthew Talbot, the church was originally named Watauga River Church. In 1776 the disbanded due to threats by Native Americans and reformed the following year. In 1783 the original pews in the building was made of flat logs. In 1965 a vehicle crashed into the church, it was then rebuilt to what it looks likes today.
