Orange County District Attorney (OCDA) (CALIFORNIA) Todd Spitzer released the investigation findings and legal conclusions of the Garden Grove Police Department officer-involved shooting of James Salazar.

The officers were cleared of wrongdoing.

On Feb. 26, 2020, 31-year-old James Salazar was caught on camera allegedly stealing a Dodger Challenger from a car dealership. A few minutes after taking the car, he hit a center median pole— right in front of officer Jorge Mazon.

Officer Mazon approached the vehicle, not knowing it was stolen. Salazar walked away from the officer and got inside his patrol car and begin driving, with the officer hanging on to the side of the vehicle.

As the patrol unit was going to collide with another vehicle, Officer Mazon shot and killed Salazar.
