Psalm 10 - God hears the prayer of the afflicted and overcomes evil

Psalm 10

1 Why, O LORD, do You remain aloof and hide Yourself in times of distress?

2 With arrogance the wicked persecute the helpless; let them get tangled up in their own plots!

3 The unfaithful brags about his own ambition, the miser despises and insults God.

4 The wicked is haughty, he does not care about this matter. "God does not exist!" is all you really think about.

5 Your businesses have continued success; far beyond his comprehension is Law acts, so he makes light of his opponents,

6 thinking to himself: “I am unshakable! No misfortune will befall me, neither me nor my descendants”.

7 His mouth is always full of fraud, curses and threats; violence and all kinds of evil are on their tongue.

8 It lays in ambush near the villages and secretly slaughters the innocent.

9 Watch out like a hidden lion; puts himself in a ambush to catch the needy; grabs the poor and drags him in his hammock.

10 He lurks, crouches, stoops, and the wretch falls into his power.

11 Imagine to yourself: “God has forgotten; he hid his face and will never pay attention to it”.

12 Arise, LORD! Lift up your hand, O God! Don't forget the helpless.

13 Why does the wicked despise God, saying in his heart, “You will not hold me accountable”?

14 But you see suffering and pain; and take these feelings in your hands. The sufferer surrenders to you, for you are the protector of the fatherless.

15 You break the arm of the wicked and the wicked, you ask an account of their cruelty, until nothing else is seen of it.

16 The LORD reigns always and forever; from their land the other peoples have disappeared.

17 You, O LORD, hear the prayer of the needy; thou shalt strengthen their hearts and answer their cry.

18 Defend the fatherless and the oppressed, so that man, who is dust, may no longer provoke terror.
