Fly Like the Wind, a highly decorated American Civil War Horse

Fly Like the Wind was an American Quarter Horse who was foaled in Barrett Switch, Posey County, Indiana and raised in Stewartsville, IN, also in Posey County, a few years before the American Civil War.

When war arrived, she carried her owner, a Union Soldier, far from home and through many battles. Her story is amazing and can be read about in a book, titled after her name, Fly like the Wind.

Fly was much loved during her life time by fans, near and far. Her skeletal remains and Union Army tack are on consistent display in the 2nd floor museum of the Workingmen's Institute, New Harmony, IN
