Canadian Premier Disappointed Over Keystone Pipeline Axing; JBS Paid $11M Ransom in Cyberattack
TC energy is abandoning the Keystone XL pipeline. This comes months after Biden suspended its construction permit. It marks the end of a 13-year battle between environmentalists and the energy sector. Environmental groups cheered on the decision to halt it. But the move marks a blow to Canada. The Canadian province Alberta spent over $1 billion on the project. Alberta's premier Jason Kenney saying in a statement, “We remain disappointed and frustrated with the circumstances surrounding the Keystone XL project, including the cancellation of the presidential permit for the pipeline’s border crossing."
The world's biggest meat processor, JBS confirms it paid cyber-attackers $11M in ransom. That's after an attack last week forced it to shut down. The CEO of JBS USA, Andre Nogueira said: "This was a very difficult decision to make for our company and for me personally." He said the payment was to protect their customers.
And President Biden's in England today meeting with the prime minister, on his first overseas trip as president. He has a packed schedule ahead. He outlined his trip, mentioning the G7 summit, then a NATO ministerial and finally to meet with Russia's Putin to "let him know what i want him to know." Biden will attend the NATO summit Monday, and end his trip with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
