Blink Ink director Greg Barth in London: "This retro interpretation of electronic music was driven by a concept to create a beat using instruments that glitch and deform according to the sound they produce, creating a visual landscape that reflects the sonic one. "The project brief was really open, the client wanted to wish happy new year to the Hello Play members and convince potential new ones that they were Belgium's main electronic music provider. It had to be cool and fun, what a brief! I came up with the concept thinking there would be some reworking involved, but they instantly loved every idea, which was amazing! "In such a short period of time and on such a tight budget it was [challenging] to get the maximum of my ideas made possible. It was also hard to find which sounds/instruments could be visually represented without being unrealistic in the production process. "There was a lot of experimentation and research to get the 3D simulations right, which, with a tight deadline and being new to the 3D printing pipeline was quite a challenge. I wanted to make sure the simulations of objects deforming to their own sound was both accurate and graphic looking.

"Then that 3D-printed chocolate Greek head was a whole other league of experimentation, mainly because we didn't have time to test how different materials resist/melt with heat. The end result was completely unexpected, which was thrilling but a bit stressful. Schedule: "One week for 3D simulations and experimentation, one week to print the 3D models and organise the shoot, three days shoot, four days of post. Everyone pulled extra hours though as we were a small but amazing team!"
