Derek Charles Johnson’s performance of “Jesus Paid It All”

If the Gospel could be summed up in one song, perhaps Jesus Paid It All would be that song. It’s a beautiful hymn. But I often forget to just consider the words and if you dropped all the music, consider what the message is. Jesus paid the price. Nothing else needs to be done. The work is finished. We could not do it. We could not save ourselves. But Jesus stepped in and took our place and took away the crimson stain that falls on all of us. He washed it white as snow. There’s powerful imagery there. Each time we hear this song and consider the imagery, we should relive the message that we cling to in Christ. Because we live in a world that either does not know OR it thinks it knows but has it wrong. I love this hymn because it brings me back to this simple reality: Jesus paid my sin debt and because of Him, I can stand before the Father complete — He sees me without sin, blemish, or stain because of Christ. Hallelujah!

I hear the Savior say
Thy strength indeed is small
Child of weakness, watch and pray
Find in Me thine all in all

Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe
Sin had left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow

Lord, now indeed I find
Thy power and Thine alone
Can change the leper’s spots
And melt the heart of stone

Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe
Sin had left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow

(And all my sin and all my shame is washed away)

And when before the throne
I stand in Him complete
Jesus died my soul to save
My lips shall still repeat

Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe
Sin had left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow
Sin had left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow
