Manchin bravely votes “NO” against Democrats; Newsom goes back on his word Cali remains in emergency

Gavin Newsom goes back on his word. California is not going to lift the state of emergency on the previously proposed date of June 15. Newsom told a press conference that picked winners in the state’s lottery-style vaccination incentive program on Friday: “The one thing I am certain of is: There’s uncertainty in the future. The emergency remains in effect after June 15.”

Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin dealt a major blow on Sunday. In addition to his support of the filibuster, Manchin said he’ll vote against H.R.1. He wrote in his home-state newspaper The Charleston Gazette-Mail, “Congressional action on federal voting rights legislation must be the result of both Democrats and Republicans coming together to find a pathway forward or we risk further dividing and destroying the republic we swore to protect and defend as elected officials … I believe that partisan voting legislation will destroy the already weakening binds of our democracy, and for that reason, I will vote against the For the People Act. Furthermore, I will not vote to weaken or eliminate the filibuster.”
