Texas Declares Disaster Over Border Crisis; West Virginia Offers Sweepstakes for Getting Vaccinated

Secretary of State Antony Blinken is marking his first trip to central America by saying the U.S. wants a shared commitment with those countries on migration. Blinken says the U.S. is preparing a $4B aid package to help countries in the region meet the challenges of "irregular migration."

Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a disaster declaration, in response to the humanitarian crisis. It comes the same day the Biden administration formally ends the Trump-era “Remain in Mexico” policy. Abbott said “President Biden’s open-border policies have paved the way for dangerous gangs and cartels, human traffickers, and deadly drugs like fentanyl to pour into our communities.”

And according to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, or EEOC, businesses can require that their employees get the COVID-19 vaccine without violating federal laws. This comes as West Virginia is the latest state joining in the push for vaccinations. Governor Jim justice announcing those who get the vaccine will be entered into a sweepstakes to win custom guns or $1 million dollars.
