Does my cat think I'm her mother?

My cats do this to me when they are going to sit next to me or lay in bed next to me. They’ll come on my lap and knead me and then go to their spots on chair or bed. I always talk softly to them when they do this and they purr louder or sometimes they’ll meow softly back.
