Parsons was born in Lake Minnetonka, Minnesota, to Mary and Charles Parsons. She had two sisters, Mary and Theresa. When she was seventeen, her father remarried, to Genevieve Stack, and relocated with his second wife and daughters to South Pasadena, California.[citation needed] She was a member of the Class of 1960 at Minnetonka High School.
