Introductory Note: Let me be very clear because the title of this podcast and associated article is more provocative than the actual message. I in no way advocate for the suppression of emotion for boys or men by force, but only seek to understand why this behavior (emotional suppression) remains inherent in both healthy and unhealthy forms of perceived masculinity. I also in no way believe that the verified differences between male and female mean one sex has more value than the other, or differences between the sexes demands certain behavior or adherence to behavioral norms.

In this episode of The Engineering Politics Podcast, I explain why we teach men and boys to repress their emotions. I go through the utilities and drawbacks of this behavior from an evolutionary and cultural standpoint.
