The Iron Dome is a short-range ground-to-air air defence system that counters rockets and missiles. After the 2006 Israel-Lebanon War, when Israel was bombarded by thousands of rockets fired by Hezbollah, the notion was born. Iron Dome, Israel's missile defence system, took years to construct and was first tested in battle in April 2011. The technology is meant to intercept Gaza-bound short-range missiles and rockets.
