Crocodile Holds Up Traffic As It Tries To Cross Road During Floods
Crocodile Holds Up Traffic As It Tries To Cross Road During Floods. A huge crocodile has been filmed holding up traffic while trying to cross a road during record-breaking flooding.
Footage shows the large reptile crawling from one end of the road in Far North Queensland the other before reaching the barriers, hindering a further escape.
The unexpected sighting comes after torrential rain flooded the Daintree River, covering the main roads and busy highways with water on Tuesday night.
Crocodiles are commonly displaced in North Queensland, known as the 'croc country', during natural disasters such as flooding or cyclones. A young motorist received a shock when she spotted a crocodile on the side of the road, which had escaped the flood waters after ex-Tropical Cyclone Owen, on December 15.
The Department of Environment and Science in Queensland say all sightings of estuarine and freshwater crocodiles must be reported.
Roughly 350mm of rain fell in Prosperine within 24 hours, while the Upper Black River in Townsville's west received more than 200mm.
The same weather system dropped a whopping 500mm of rain into the Daintree River within 24 hours last week.
