On this edition of the Ex Terra Podcast, we talk with Ben Haldeman, the founder of LifeShip, which wants to send your DNA to the Moon.

You’ve likely wondered if there’s any way to be part of a bigger expedition for humanity and leave your legacy for future generations. LifeShip is a mission-driven space and genomics startup based out of San Francisco, California. LifeShip a remote-first team of spacecraft architects, product designers, and creatives committed to connecting people with the cosmos while doing good for our Earth.

The LifeShip mission is to preserve Earth’s life for eternity and spread humanity to the stars. Their focus is to have an impact on humanity, the Earth, and the Universe, both today and for the billion-year future.

Ben Haldeman is driven to make space accessible to people while also doing good for our Earth. Over the past 15 years, he’s created powerful telescopes to find new planets, instruments to look for life on Mars, and satellite networks to help Earth and advance space exploration. He’s worked on hundreds of satellites that have gone to space and been involved in dozens of rocket launches.

LifeShip’s first mission is already closed, with some 1,000 DNA samples set to travel to Lacus Mortis on the Moon in late 2021. Launch will be on a ULA Vulcan rocket and land with the Astrobotic Peregrine lunar lander.

But you can still send your DNA to the Moon. The second LifeShip mission is planed for 2022. Your DNA will be loaded aboard a payload assembled by LifeShip’s partners at Galactic Legacy Labs and Arch Mission Foundation.

Haldeman spoke to us from his remote work location in Guatemala. He is on a mission to spread life from Earth to the stars. He is a space entrepreneur, futurist, rocket scientist, and product designer. He founded LifeShip with a vision to save copies of Earth’s genetic code in space. LifeShip’s first mission is a DNA time capsule to the Moon. People can add their DNA and affordably be part of a space mission.
