Booby bird facts

Boobies are birds who got their common name from sailors who called them "fools" or "boobs" for making themselves so easy to catch. This name may also come from their goofy walk. Boobies have four toed webbed feet, a trait shared with pelicans and gannets but not other birds like geese and ducks who have only three toes to their webbed feet. Boobies are medium to large sized birds and while they spend a good portion of their lives at sea, their breeding season (which can last up to 40 weeks!) is spent protecting eggs and young on land between trips to the water for food.
