From birth to 3 years of life, the equine is still considered a foal. However, care begins even before birth. As we have seen, the mare should receive adequate nutrition, with the necessary nutrients, especially in the last trimester of pregnancy. This ensures not only good milk production, but also the maintenance of the general condition of the mare.

At birth, the foal weighs around 40kg and weighs about 90cm, varying according to breed and genetics. Postpartum hours are crucial for foal survival, and constant monitoring is paramount. The main care with newborns are directly related to the Respiratory System, Temperature, Umbilical Cord Care, Meconium Excretion and Breastfeeding.
