The Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4 is a mid-engined supercar, designed and developed in Germany by the Volkswagen Group and manufactured in Molsheim, France, by Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S.

The original version had a top speed of 407.12 km / h (252.97 mph). [3] The car of the decade (2001-2009) was chosen by the BBC television program, Top Gear. The original version also won the Best Car Driven All Year award for the same program in 2005. Veyron's Super Sport version was recognized by Guinness World Records as the fastest street car in the world, with a top speed of 431,072 km / h (267.856 mph). [4] This record was subsequently broken by the Koenigsegg Agera RS, which reached 444.6 km / h in 2017, and has since become the fastest new production car in the world. [5] The Grand Sport Vitesse roadster version of the Veyron is the fastest convertible in the world, reaching a speed of 408.84 km / h (254.04 mph) in a test conducted on April 6, 2013.

Veyron's chief designer was Hartmut Warkuss, and the exterior was designed by Volkswagen's Jozef Kabaň. Much of the engineering work was supervised by chief engineer Wolfgang Schreiber.

Several special models were produced. In December 2010, Bugatti started offering potential buyers the possibility to customize the car's interior and exterior colors, using the Veyron 16.4 Configurator application on the brand's official website.

In 1998, the Volkswagen Group acquired the rights to use the Bugatti brand with the intention of revitalizing the brand. [10] From the Bugatti EB118, four concepts were presented in several salons of the car, all with a W18 engine. At the 1999 Tokyo Motor Show, the first Veyron concept was presented. [11] At the time, the concept name was "Bugatti Veyron EB 18.4", equipped with a W18 engine instead of the production version's W16 engine. While the previous three prototypes had been designed by Giugiaro, the Veyron was designed by Volkswagen's own designers.

The decision to start production of the car was taken by the Volkswagen Group in 2001. The first prototype in working order was completed in August 2003. It is similar to the production version, except for some details. In the transition from development to series production, considerable technical problems had to be fixed, which delayed production until September 2005.

Name origin
The name "Veyron" is a tribute to Bugatti's engineer, test driver and race co-driver, Pierre Veyron, who, along with co-driver Jean-Pierre Wimille, won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1939 driving a Bugatti . [13] The "EB" refers to the founder of Bugatti, Ettore Bugatti. "16.4" refers to the 16 cylinders of the engine and the use of four turbochargers.
