Not only do courts at different levels have different reasons for existence, how they function is equally diverse.

Yes, lower criminal courts often have a jury deciding cases. That's not that case for courts like the U. S. Supreme Court.

Further, they exist to do dissimilar things. For example, a lower criminal court may have a jury of peers. The SCOTUS though, is often in the business determining whether a given law is Constitutional.
