How do you know for sure, without a shadow of a doubt, that you will go to heaven when you die?

Many people believe that all they have to do is be a good person, but that is not enough.

It is written in the Bible:

The LORD looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. All have turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. –- Psalm 14:2-3

So if being a good person is not enough, then how does anyone get into heaven?

God has made it very clear in the Bible.

There are 4 Spiritual Principles that should govern our relationship with God.

These principles will explain how you can personally begin a relationship with God, right now, through Jesus Christ.

You don’t have to take classes, join a church or sell all of your possessions.

Spiritual Principle #1: God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” — John 3:16

God originally planned for each and everyone of us to have abundant lives…but it’s clear that many people in this world are not experiencing this abundance that God wants for our lives.

What happened?

Spiritual Principle #2: Humans are sinful and separated from God.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” — Romans 3:23

“The wages of sin is death” — Romans 6:23

Since we are separated from God, we try to reach God and gain access to the abundant life through religion and human philosophy — but our own efforts fail. We are separated from God.

How do we fix this separation between us and God?

Spiritual Principle #3: Jesus Christ is the only way to reach God, bridge the gap and experience the abundant life that God had originally planned for all humans.

In John 14:6, Jesus told His disciples, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.”

Remember Principle #2, sin has separated us from God…but Jesus fixed our sin problem.

How did Jesus do this?

“God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” — Romans 5:8

Jesus conquered sin and death when he rose from the dead.

There is an empty tomb in Jerusalem.

…Christ died for our sins…was buried…was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time…1 Corinthians 15:3-6

However, knowing these first 3 spiritual principles is not enough.

Spiritual Principle #4: We must accept God’s free gift. Each one of us must accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.

When Jesus becomes our Lord and Savior, we are no longer separated from God.

When we trust what Jesus did on the cross as the full payment for our sins, then and only then, can we experience God’s love and plan for our lives.

“As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.” — John 1:12

“By grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one can boast.” — Ephesians 2:8-9

Our Heavenly Father wants to come into your life. Like any good parent, He wants to be a part of your life. Jesus allows us to fellowship with God the Father.

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” — Revelation 3:20

It is possible to have a real relationship with God, through Jesus Christ. This relationship can start today!

If you want to know God, and know for sure that you will go to heaven when you die, then pray this prayer:

Lord Jesus, I need You. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Make me the kind of person that You want me to be. Help me to grow in Your grace and in the knowledge of who You are. Amen.

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” — Romans 10:9

If you prayed the prayer above, then you are now saved from eternal separation from God.

Now what?

Like any healthy relationship, you must work at it.

It’s important for you to know that there is nothing that you can do to earn your way into heaven. Salvation is a free gift.

In addition, you don’t have to maintain your salvation.

Jesus accomplished that for you by dying for your sins on the cross.

However, God does promise rewards when we give Him control of our lives.

God promises to guide us and make our path through this life straight.

As our relationship with God grows, so does our ability to know His will for our life — and to have the confidence that we have eternal life.

“God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life.” — 1 John 5:11–13

A number of things happened the moment you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

1. Your sins were forgiven — Colossians 1:14
2. You became a child of God — John 1:12
3. Christ came into your life — Revelation 3:20
4. You are no longer separated from God — John 14:6
5. Your name is written in the book of life, permanently — Phil. 4:3
6. You have been saved from the lake of fire — Rev. 20:15
7. You have eternal life, with God, in heaven — John 3:16

To enjoy the abundant life that God promises to every believer, here are some suggestions to help you grow in God’s grace and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.

1. Pray every day.
2. Read your Bible every day. Start with the Gospel of John or the book of Ephesians.
3. Obey God in every area of your life.
4. Let your life be a witness to what God is doing in your life.
5. Trust God to provide for your every need, through faith.
6. Let God lead you through this life by the power of His Holy Spirit who lives in you from the moment you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.
7. Find a good church and study the Bible.
