The Blackbird (Turdus merula), or more commonly Merula, is a species of passerine bird in the family Turdidae. The blackbird nests in Europe, Asia and North Africa, and has been introduced to Australia and New Zealand. There are several subspecies of Blackbird throughout its vast range, with some Asian subspecies considered by some authors to be full species. Depending on the latitude, the Blackbird can be resident or migratory, partially or fully migratory.
