A wounded duck in a city park - survived a harsh winter
3 years ago

WHALE is a bird from the duck family. She is injured, and thank God she survived the harsh winter. In large cities on non-freezing water bodies, populations of wintering wild mallards have formed, receiving complementary foods from people. These populations grow due to natural reproduction and do not fly away for the winter. In winter, "urban" mallards do not have enough natural food, even if the river freezes only near the coast. Therefore, in winter, "city" mallards need additional food from people. In summer, there is enough natural food and mallards do not need complementary foods, although they habitually stay near the feeding places. "City" mallards are beneficial, clearing reservoirs of duckweed and mosquito larvae.
