The mouse fell into a barrel of wine. As it could not swim, it began to drown, swallowing wine and screaming for help. But only one who appeared to answer the call was a cat, its number one enemy. The cat then asked with irony:
- Are you drowning, my friend?
The mouse, barely able to speak, answered:
- Don't just stand there looking. Please, get me out of here. I can't swim.
- But if I get you out, I will eat you, because I am a cat," he laughed.
- I know you're a cat, but I'd rather be eaten by you than drowned in wine," said the mouse, already on its last legs.
The cat thought and answered:
- All right! I'll get you out.
And, calmly, the cat took the mouse out of the barrel and put it on the floor. But the mouse soon disappeared down a hole.
- Hey, you betrayed me," complained the cat. - You said you were going to let me eat it.
- Did I say that?
- Yes, you did.
- That's not possible! I must have been drunk!
