"Il Canto degli Italiani" (Italian pronunciation: [il ˈkanto deʎʎ itaˈljaːni]; "The Song of the Italians") is a canto written by Goffredo Mameli set to music by Michele Novaro in 1847, and is the current national anthem of Italy. It is best known among Italians as the Inno di Mameli ("Mameli's Hymn"), after the author of the lyrics, or Fratelli d'Italia ("Brothers of Italy"), from its opening line.
The song was very popular during the unification of Italy and in the following decades in the 19th century. After the Second World War, Italy became a republic, and Il Canto degli Italiani was chosen, in October 1946, as a provisional (de facto) national anthem. It finally gained de jure status in 2017.

(English Lyrics / Translation)
Brothers of Italy,
Italy has woken,
Bound Scipio's helmet
Upon her head.
Where is Victory?
Let her bow down,
For God created her
Slave of Rome.

Refrain:
Let us join in a cohort,
We are ready to die.
We are ready to die,
Italy has called.
Let us join in a cohort,
We are ready to die.
We are ready to die,
Italy has called! Yes!
