LA City Councilmen Aims To Set Up Homeless Camps On City's Beaches

In California A Los Angeles City Council Member Has Proposed Setting Up Sites For Homeless People On The City's Iconic Beaches.

According To The Latest Data From The USIC, California Has More Than 150,000 People Experiencing Homelessness - With About 66,000 Of Those People In L.A. County Alone- A Number Experts Believe Will Double Over The Next Four Years.

City Councilman Mike Bonin Says He Has An “Everything In” Approach To Homelessness Including Setting Up Tents Or Tiny Homes For The Homeless On Beaches In The Pacific Palisades, Playa Del Rey, And Marina Del Rey.

He's Also Proposing Setting Up An RV Site For The Homeless In The Parking Lot Of One Of The Beaches.

Bonin's Proposal, However, Does Not Provide A Plan For The Environmental Impact Of Homeless Camps On Public Beaches Such As Sewage, And Trash Nor Does He Provide A Plan To Deal With The Drug Use And Criminal Activity That Officials Say Run Rampant In California Homeless Camps.

Many Local Residents Are Speaking Out Against The Proposal Saying,
"I Don’t Understand Why They Are Trashing Our City’s Infrastructure And The Lives Of Tax Paying Citizens?!"

And
"There Is A Lot Of Cheap Empty Land Just Outside Of L.A Where Homeless Communities Can Be Concentrated. It’s Cheaper, Less Controversial And Gives Them A Goal To Return To The Community Once Cleaned Up And Able And Willing To Live A Normal Life."

A Petition Has Been Started In Opposition Of The Proposal.
