Annual 'Judas-dragging' festival takes place in Nicaragua

Some people need to move on.

More than 2,000 years since Judas Iscariot’s alleged betrayal of Jesus, residents of the Nicaraguan town of Masatepe just can’t let go – metaphorically or literally.

For over a century, they’ve taken part in a Good Friday festival that involves dragging chained ‘Judases’ through the streets.

Showing a distinct lack of Christian forgiveness, people ‘catch’ and ‘punish’ the Judases, who seem to take it all in good spirits, even though they’re more likely to go home with ‘holy’ jeans than 30 pieces of silver for their trouble.
