Samuel Xu, Response to comment on book review
Capt10 General response to to comment on book review Book review- Peter Frankopan The Silk Roads: A New History of the World
from Samuel Xu I understood his theme as "looking back to the east" as a significantly underestimated source of resources and intellectual material. The quintessential example being Al-kwarizmi with the Arabic numeral system and algorithms, his namesake. Indeed, there were parallel developments of many theories, examples being the Pythagorean ratios and the Chinese remainder theorem.
He began the book with a brief tour into his childhood and his sense of wonder with the "unexplored" portion of the map: the mystical east - so he takes us along and demystifies its wonders.
I'd like to hear some interplay between the book's themes and your professional perspective from the mining history if you could please!
