video tour of 7' x 10' room and apartment in Upper East Side, Manhattan, New York City

Here's a video tour of a 7' x 10' room that I rented, and the apartment in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York City. The lease holder slept in the living room. Her computer desk was just outside the door to my room. LOL.

The leaseholder kept the place filthy. Glassware pots on the stove, with half-eaten foot, lids sitting askew, roaches crawling inside and outside of the pots. One afternoon or evening, I arrive and she offers me some tea. I accept. I'm about to finish drinking the tea and I lift the tea bag, in order to finish it all in one gulp. As I'm lifting the tea bag out of the mug, I see a big cockroach, dead, clinging to the bottom of the teabag. I walk into the kitchen to tell her, and show her the teabag, and she smiles and says something like "Oh, I guess I didn't see that, at least it's dead". Feeling sick, I toss the teabag in the garbage and wash the mug, then go into the bathroom to take a shower. In the bathroom, I see smeared, dried brown stuff on the toilet seat, toilet seat handle, sink. I rub some of it off with toilet paper and take a sniff. Smells like feces. I started looking for another place and eventually moved to Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York, a place inhabited by seemingly friendlier people and lot of event spaces with free or cheap events.

I paid $700 dollars a month for this: A 7' x 10' room, in a fifth floor walkup, in Manhattan, New York City. The area was nice, quiet, and near amenities (laundry mat, grocery store). A magnificent church sat directly across the street, with a beautifully-treed courtyard area out front. The room, in the 5th floor walkup, was located on 88th Street, between 1st and 2nd Avenue. Nearby, on 86th Street, that lead to the subway, was a movie theatre, a grocery store, an electronics store, a phone store, a Barnes & Nobles (free events), a Shake Shack, and at the corner of 88th and 1st was a Vietnamese restaurant with delicious food and reasonably priced lunch specials. My friend, Marian, who I met on the set of "Spiderman" movie, we were both BackGround (BG) actors aka "extras", and I would go to the restaurant for lunch. Good times.
