Cartels give migrants phony asylum stories

On my recent trip to the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona, I met "Danny," a teenager from Honduras, hoping to make it into the United States. He said he was claiming asylum in the U.S. because he is gay. While his story may or may not be true, the cartels are giving migrants advice on what hardships to claim in their pursuit of asylum. And since migrants often throw away their actual ID, it's often impossible for border officials to determine the truth.
