Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg were caught on a hot mic discussing a possible infrastructure deal without Republican support.

Benjamin Louis Cardin is an American politician serving as the senior United States Senator from Maryland, first elected to that seat in 2006. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously was the U.S. Representative for Maryland's 3rd congressional district from 1987 to 2007.

Peter Paul Montgomery Buttigieg is an American politician who has served as the United States secretary of transportation since February 3, 2021. He was previously the 32nd mayor of South Bend, Indiana. Buttigieg is a graduate of Harvard College and Oxford University, attending the latter on a Rhodes Scholarship.
