Medics from the Arizona National Guard administered the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine to approximately 100 staff volunteers with the International Rescue Committee, Sunday, March 14th in the Phoenix metro area. The Arizona National Guard was requested to assist in order to restore the IRC's staffing levels since their volunteer base's vaccination eligibility fell outside normal categories. The IRC is a non-governmental organization that provides support to refugees seeking asylum. These IRC volunteers will conduct COVID testing and help quarantine an influx of asylum seekers anticipated at the southern U.S. border.
