What's The Best Cheese for Pizza?
Making homemade pizza is a fun way to spice up your weeknight dinner menu. But what is the perfect cheese to add to your pizza recipe? The type of cheese does matter (unlike pizza toppings which can be anything from pepperoni and prosciutto to pickles), and it depends on three things: meltability, elasticity, and flavor. Different cheeses have different textures, and some are more fitting for the title of the best cheese for pizza than the others.
Our Favorite cheeses for topping pizza include low-moisture mozzarella, fresh mozzarella cheese, provolone, cheddar cheese, fontina, gouda, gruyere, and goat cheese. Pizza lovers and pizza makers can all agree mozzarella is the most popular of the bunch.
Once you've got some sauce and cheese on your pizza dough, you can add on some hard cheeses or soft cheeses for flavor. Some of our favorites include parmesan cheese,whole-milk ricotta, and feta. These cheeses act like a garnish on your pizza pie.
