The Shakrin festival is celebrated by flying kites. This is at the end of the ninth month of Poush in the Bengali calendar (January 14 or 15 in the Gregorian calendar). This day is known as Poush Sankranti (Bengali: পৌশের فہرست; Shakrine is usually celebrated in the southern part of Dhaka city. As part of the celebration, colorful kites were flown from the surrounding rooftops in the afternoon. This often takes the form of a kite fight, in which participants try to snatch each other’s kites or cut off another kite. When night falls, the sky of old Dhaka is filled with fireworks. People usually gather on the roof, many of whom skillfully light fires as well as keep the whole city awake through music for entertainment……….
