There was no single individual better equipped to stop this coup cold than Vice-President Mike Pence. No one can predict how a totally proper debate on the constitutionality of the electoral votes submitted by the individual states to the Congress of the United States meeting in joint session for that express purpose would have turned out. However there is no question that vice president Mike Pence, who was then also sitting as president of the Senate, could have and should have ordered such a debate to proceed, however he didn't. Even worse, he claimed at the time that he lacked the authority to do so.
Pence, now desperately trying to repair the damage to his reputation, posted an OpEd last week in the online newspaper, the Daily Signal.
Now Pence sounds like he is 100% back on our team. Should we believe him?
“After an election marked by significant voting irregularities and numerous instances of officials setting aside state election law, I share the concerns of millions of Americans about the integrity of the 2020 election.”
“That’s why when I was serving as presiding officer at the joint session of Congress certifying the Electoral College results, I pledged to ensure that all objections properly raised under the Electoral Count Act would be given a full hearing before Congress and the American people.”
