INITIAL POINT / PIVOT POINT INDIANA / Start of Public Land Survey in Indiana / Historic Marker

I went to the Initial Point or Pivot Point in the Hoosier National Forest in Orange County Indiana. This place is the beginning point for the Public Land Survey in Indiana and it is how almost all the land is measured and divided in much of the United States. This point is how most of Indiana was measured from and some parts of Illinois. Townships were each 6 x 6 miles square north and south and ranges were each 6 x 6 miles square east and west. Each of these squares is called a township. It is separated into sections and so on and so on.

A very cool historical marker that still affects people's lives today!
