Get Help!| Self Harm & Suicide Prevention

This video discusses strategies to keep kids and families safe from self harm, such as cutting, and suicide. This video is targeted at parents, parents that can watch it with their kids, kids that have friends cutting or that want to kill themselves and don't no what to do and for kids looking to kill or hurt themselves that stumble upon this video looking up the frequent search "how do I kill myself," "I want to kill myself," and "how do I commit suicide." This video was created to get people to talk about this uncomfortable emotional condition and to make a plan with family and friends to prevent suicide and self harm.

Suicide and self-harm tips that are discussed are:
Asking the person directly “do you want to kill yourself?”
How to respond to a person that says they want to kill themselves
Insulating your loved ones and people around you by having 5 key people in your life to turn to when things may turn to giving up
Resources that are used to call to get help: 911, go to the hospital, The National Suicide Prevention Hotline 1-800-243- TALK & the Crisis Text Line: Txt: HOME to 741741 to talk to a crisis counselor or reach out to family member or friend (18 years or older)
Protocols for keeping your home safe after self-harm or suicidal ideation has been identified in your family or living environment
It is very important that kids who find out a friend wants to kill or hurt themselves does not try to talk them out of it, but gets help from an adult instead. Kids want to help their friends, but this is a serious issue that kids are not able to handle with out a caring adult’s help.
13 Reasons why is touched on as suicide is not what you think it is. You don’t land in some world where you can view people grieving over you or so that you can haunt them.
