Snowflake Zooming Around the Cage and Popcorning

Our newest guinea pig, Snowflake, is just 10 weeks old and has been with us for two of those. She got her name because she arrived just as "The Beast From the East 2.0" arrived in the UK and we had snowfall the night we got her. She is particularly manic and loves to zoom around the cage and "popcorn". Zooming and popcorning (jumping in the air) are a sign of a happy healthy guinea pig, so it is always great to see them do it.

This is one reason guinea pigs need nice large cages with plenty of room to run around. The recommended minimum for 2 guinea pigs is 8 square feet on one level. Most shop-bought cages fall woefully short of this. A nice large cage like this one cost only about £30-£40 to build and is easy to make. They are open and accessible and part of the family life rather than shut away in a shed or spare room.
