As a result of this divorce between Christ and the Cross within the modern west, many Christians tend to separate the Passion from the Transfiguration. And yet, they are intimately connected. It is amid the splendor of His Transfiguration on Mt. Tabor that Our Dearest Lord speaks of His death with the two Witnesses from the Old Testament, namely, Moses and Elias. Christ never divorces the reward from the price. In the first of these mysteries, the Transfiguration, everything points to glory and delight for Jesus Christ, but in the second mystery, the Passion, everything points to injuries and sufferings. On Mount Tabor, He is resplendent as the sun. He is wrapped up in glory as with a bright garment, whereas on Calvary He is naked disfigured covered with blood. On Mount Tabor, the Father proclaims Him His well beloved Son, but on Calvary Christ cries out, My God, My God why hast Thou forsaken Me. On the day of the Transfiguration, the apostles do not wish to leave His presence, but on the day of His Passion and Death they all forsake Him. Yet these two mysteries are intimately connected and explain each other. The one points to the crown prepared for us, while the other teaches us its price.
