Science Rocks - experiment for kids - Reducing friction
Science Rocks videos are created by Jules and her Nana while doing home school science experiments. We started home school science in 2019 and both of us have learned a lot and had a lot of fun!
This video is all about reducing friction. But first we need to know a little about friction. Friction reduces the motion between objects that are in contact with each other. So, friction stops or slows down movement. Examples of friction is to rub your hands together till they feel warm creating heat, or slide on a wood floor with shoes and then with socks. Shoes increases the friction, socks reduces the friction. Friction also causes wear and tear on car engines and bike gears.
So, how do we reduce friction? Oil for example is the lubricant used to reduce friction between moving parts of an engine so the engine will run longer. Another way to reduce friction is to make the surfaces smoother such as in a smooth round ball rolling across the floor.
This video is all about reducing friction and is really easy to do. All you need is a marble, some salt and a test tube or other container with a lid. Check it out and see how it works!
