An ordinary Chinese person's voice - Zhang Pancheng

Zhang Pancheng, a left-behind child growing up to become a security guard at Peking University in Beijing China, was arrested for posting this video back in November 2018. He was detained for one and a half years.

Left-behind children (留守儿童): children left behind in rural areas when their parents migrate to big cities for better job opportunities, a phenomenon accompanying China's rapid economic growth in its hierarchical city tiers.

In a nation where competition for economic opportunities are strongly tied to family connections and elitist education, a disadvantaged child like him comes and goes, without the world paying him much attention. Pursuing freedom, democracy and justice only made his situation worse, while most have learnt not to let these intangible things hold them back.
