I've Gotta Get A Message To You (Bee Gees, The, 1968). Live performance by Bill Sharkey, Home Studio, Hawaii Kai, HI. 2021-01-26. "Keeping the Oldies Alive"

"I've Gotta Get A Message To You" is the Bee Gee's first top 10 hit in the US and their 6th top 40 US hit in just over a year; the song landed at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1968 (Whitburn, 2008). The song is a great example of their work prior to their move to disco in the mid 1970s. According to Robin Gibb, who wrote the lyrics, the song focuses on a man who is in the process of being executed in the electric chair and wants the prison chaplain to pass along a message to the prisoner's wife (songfests.com, 2021). The man was convicted for the murder of his adulteress wife's lover (beegees.com, 2021).
