My DIY Coffee Roaster
I made this coffee roaster from an 8 cup flour sifter with a cordless drill driver w/nut driver attached to the nut to turn the sifter while it roast the green coffee beans. I have a hose clamp around the switch I can adjust to keep constant pressure so I don't have to manually hold it. Under the flour sifter is a heat gun as the heat source to roast the beans. I get a good even roast on the beans and it takes about 10 minutes to get a full city+ roast. About 8 minutes for a city roast. To cool the beans I place a metal pie pan with a hole cut in the middle the size of my shop vac hose w/wire screen over it. I use a 2-gal shop vac to suck air through the sifter which takes about 4 minutes to cool them. I can roast about 8 ozs. of coffee at a time and do two batches at a time for 16 ozs. Then store the roasted beans in a one-way valve container for 3-5 days to release some of the CO2 gas. I had most of the items already and spent about $25 total for the flour sifter. I've used it about a year. Makes a great cup of coffee!
