"Bitou bush" Bow Drill

When I explored Australia I was experimenting with wood and plants which are new to me to achieve an ember through friction.

I found this coastal plant, Bitou Bush (Chrysanthemoides monilifera) which I understand is an invasive species to Australia. It caught my attention because of the amount of incredibly dry dead sticks the plant produces when it dies.

I found this sprawling plant on the edge of a massive sand dune environment at Anna Bay within the Worimi Regional Park.

It was very easy just to pick up a few suitable sticks for a hand and bow drill set.

Has anyone else used this Bitou Bush for a friction fire, how did you get on?
