Extreme Heat & Sun Shelter.

When you're in an extreme heat and sun environment you must take care not to succumb to Heat Exhaustion or worse, Heat Stroke.

You must try to remain cool by wearing a hat, minimise physical exertion, drink plenty of fluids and find shade to rest in.

Wearing a loose fitting hat reduces the sun's heating effect on your head by shading it and therefore keeps your body temperature cooler for longer.
In a survival situation with no fluids, shade or hat you're at risk of Heat Stroke which can be fatal!

If you don’t have a hat or you’ve lost it, don’t panic. Use your shirt to fashion a hat to shade your head. In a survival situation you should urinate on your hat to aid keeping your head cool.

In a survival situation you must do all you can to prevent Heat Stroke.

Heat Stroke can affect you quickly, and you may not be aware
it's happening. Symptoms to look out for are; dizziness, light headedness, confusion, disorientation, staggering, throbbing headache, nausea and vomiting, muscle cramps, weakness, seizures, rapid shallow breathing, rapid heartbeat, loss of consciousness, or coma.

As it progresses, it can damage the brain and other internal organs,
sometimes fatally.

When suffering Heat Stroke, immediately cool down your body temperature. Immerse yourself in cold water. Drink plenty of fluids. Immediately find shade or make a shelter.

This video shows how quickly you can make a shelter to protect against the sun if you have a few materials to hand. This ground shelter must have an opening at the back to allow an airflow otherwise you will end up hotter not cooler.
